With the development of robot and biomechanics technology, the mechanical engineering developing eagerly expects the appearance of a new gear with multidegree of freedom, spherical gear well-timedly meets the need,so it has been greatly paid attention to and the research on it has been supported very much on the world. Ring involute spherical gear is one type of this gear, correlative research has been greatly supported also in our country. Granted by National Fund of Natural Science support, research on the drive principle of ring involute spherical gear's system and machining technics mothed has been carried out thoroughly in the paper. Based on the conclusion of the paper,we carefully study the tooth surface geometrical characteristic of the ring involute spherical gear and its driving strength in this paper.The main production of this paper is following:1. It is proved that the sthength of the middle-convex tooth directly decides the driving ability of the spherical gear,and this gives us a basic geometrical model for the bending thength analysis and its calculation.2. The cube-parabola method of the calculating bending strength of varing-section beam is put forward, it is valuable and helpful for us to find the danger section position of the tooth of a ring involute spherical gear and to calculate the theoretic correct stress.3. Bending-load capacity calculation method of ring involute spherical gear is set up,it fills up the blank of this kind of method about ring involute spherical gear.4. The parameter equation of the tooth surface and its differential geometrical characteristic is studied.Base on the studying result, the calculation formula of the curvature radius at a random position point and at its conjugate point on the ring tooth flank is built up,which put forword valuable parameters for the contact problem's analysis and calculating.5. Basing on Hertz theory,contact thength calculation formula is put up,which fills up the blank of this kind of method about ring involute spherical gear.6. The method of the spherical gear parameter model building and its finite element analysis under the ANSYS circumstance is studied thoroughly. The ring involute spherical gear's numerical simulating analysis with the ANSYS software is carried out,and a great number of results is obtained. Accoding to the difference between the results of finite element calculation methods and of the series theoretical methods, the series theoretical methods mentioned above is proved right and acceptable. In addition, the feature changing regulation between the finite element stress calculating result and its correlative parameter is established, those more proves that the series theoretical methods of ring involute spherical gear is right.
