The gas flow in spiral grooved non-contacting gas face seals is analyzed and calculated. Using finite element methods solves two-dimensional compressible Reynolds equation. As a result, the pressure distribution over the entire seal interface is obtained.By conducting test for the John Crane's Type2800 mechanical seals, some important parameters are measured and compared with the theoretical values. The result shows that these kind of mechanical seals are suitable for low speed pumps and are better than the ordinary ones, which are widely used. |
