Based on a lot of simulation results on the solid states fault current limiter (FCL), the author does some research on engineering application of the solid states fault current limiting technology in this paper.Firstly, the author introduces operating principle of the FCL basic topology and its continuation. Based on this precondition, two topologies fitting to be engineering applied are brought forward. And control strategies and fault identification methods of the two topologies are presented in this part.Then the author gives the primary circuit and its protect circuit design method of the FCL, and obtains primary circuit parameters of an FCL test prototype (380V/200A) and an FCL industry prototype (10kV/500A) by this means.After that the author introduces hardware and software design proposal of control system. The controller hardware is composed of digital signals processing (DSP) system performing SCR fire pulses control and MMI system providing input and output interface. DSP system and MMI system are connected by serial communication. The controller software adopts modular structure based on "SCR fire pulses control platform"Finally, the author makes some introduction on debug method, debug question and its answer in the engineering design of FCL and the measure of limiting those disturbances. The author makes a summarization about the problem in the on-site debugging which makes a preparation for the development of novel solid states fault limiter.
