In the present paper, a brief introduction to the numerical model on the hydrodynamicand sediment transport has been made. The background of basic equations and someparameters in the numerical model are discussed. This paper presents a two-dimensional depth-integrated numerical model, which hasbeen developed by using explicit scheme of finite difference method on the triangleelements. This hydrodynamic model combined with the nested grid can successfullypredict the complicated tidal flows occurring in the coastal area. It is very simple andhigh efficient. In this paper, two models to predict the bed deformation are proposed. One is obtained based on the equation of suspended sediment transport under theunsteady flow. It extended the Liu's formula and can be used to predict the bedevolution caused by the different coastal construction. This model is app1ied to predictthe bottom bed evolution in Binzhou Harbor located in the south of Bohai Bay.Results show that the computed patterns are in a good agreement with those measuredin the nature. The other is sediment transport model in terms of hydrodynamic model plus aconvection-diffusion equation with source and sink term representing the erosion anddeposition. After being verified by the sediment concentration, this model cancalculate the bed change during some tides. The computed result is qualitatively fittedwith the observed data. The detai1ed data of tide and sediment are required if the long-term prediction is wanted. Some aspects such as application and key problems in the model are discussed withcomments with the obtained achievements and the way to their further improvements.
