Pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are adhesives that bond upon application of light pressure. With applications ranging from everyday home and office supplies and spaces shuttle parts, PSAs are among the fastest growing adhesive markets. PSA label is one of composite materials which contain facestock, adhesive and silicone release liner. With the continuous growth in PSA label application recent years, paper label has become one of the most widely and popular used.Because of the low cost and environment-friendly advantage, acrylic emulsion polymer has been widely used in PSA paper label application. The work for the paper label which is made of a lot of fillers (such like calcium carbonate) is always in the research stage. Base on the former researches, this work studies the choice of functional monomer, the polymerization process confirmation and the physical performance of the PSA label.Through the testing of Rheological behaviors, the particle size of the emulsion polymer and polymer molecular weight, we found that the stability of the acrylic emulsion polymer, the performance of the polymer and label depend on the polymerization process and the amount of acrylic acid(AA).In conclusion, applied in pre-emulsification technology, the amount of AA is 0.3%wt, synthesized in 3L-reactors, the average particle size of the acrylic emulsion synthesized in 3L-reactor is 260.3nm, and the PDI is 0.11. Solid content is 62%. Once coated on the semi-gloss paper, we can get the good balance of peel adhesion, tack and shear before and after aging.
