Desertification degree and ecosystem services value (ESV) are closely related. Taking the southeast of Mu Us Sandland (including Yuyang District, Shenmu County, Hengshan County, Jingbian County and Dingbian County) as the study object, and taking the desertification degree evaluation system conducted by Gao Shangwu as reference, this thesis obtained desertification degree scores of the study region from 2002 to 2012 and evaluated the results. Then, taking the real condition of the study region into consideration, the thesis set up the value coefficient of various ecotype, and established a ESV table suitable for the southeast of Mu Us Sandland referring to the changes of land utilization of the southeast of Mu Us Sandland in decades and various economic and social development indicators as well as the equivalent factor table of ESV of unit area established by Xie Gaodi After improving the willingness-to-pay of evaluation model, the thesis calculated and evaluated the gross value and each single value of the ecosystem services in the study district and finally, gave an analysis of the relationship between ESV and desertification degree. The specific research results are as follows:(1) Moderate desertification degree of the southeast of Mu Us Sandland in 2002 successionally developed into of mild desertification in 2012, during which desertification degree has certain fluctuations, but the overall desertification reversion trend is evident However, the reduction of desertification area slows down gradually and tends to level off, which is the reflection of less rainfall in Mu Us Sandland caused by global warming.(2) The variation trend of gross ESV in the southeast of Mu Us Sandland during 2002-2012 is rising continuously and so is each single ESV. The continuous rise in ten years, on the one hand, is closely related to such ecological initiatives as Grain-to-Green Program, eco-agriculture construction, water and soil conservation, etc. On the other hand, people’s willingness-to-pay doesn’t match with their ability-to-pay because of social and economic development. This further indicates that ESV can reflect the objective value of ecosystem quality as well as human’s subjective value dynamically in an all-around way.(3) During 2002-2012, the ESV of all ecotypes in the southeast of Mu Us Sandland shows an inverse correlation with the desertification degree, where gas regulation, climate regulation, soil formation and protection, biodiversity protection, raw material production and entertainment culture show a high negative correlation with desertification degree. Socio-culture service value shares the highest correlation and the coefficient is-0.855.(4) By regression analysis, linear correlation model concerning desertification scores and ESV is established:Y=535.225-13.971X. This model explains the quantitative relations between land desertification degree and gross ESV and provides a basis for monitoring the overall desertification trend of the southeast of Mu Us Sandland.
