The air is seriously polluted by sulfur dioxide with the development of modern industry. Traditional de-SO2 absorbents may cause secondary pollution; and traditional methods of SO2 removal lead to the loss of sulfur resources as the absorbents can’t be recycled and SO2 can’t be desorbed. Ionic Liquids are good adsorbents because of their excellent characteristics (negligible vapour pressure, high stability, good high-solubility on acidic gas, recycle etc.), meanwhile, SO2 can be recycled and reused from regeneration process to produce other chemicals. However, they have many shortcomings such as high viscosity, large quantity, high cost. In this paper, ionic liquids are supported on acivated carbon fibers with physical and chemical methods and their performances of desulfurization and regeneration were investigated:1) Ionic Liquids (ILs) [C3O1Mim]+[H3CSO3]-and [C5O2Mim]+[H3CSO3]-supported on active carbon fibers with different loading amount were prepared by incipient impregnation method. The prepared IL-loaded ACFs were characterized by N2 adsorption and TG. The performance of desulfurization and regeneration were investigated. The adsorption amounts were 45.34 and 60.08 mg SO2/g adsorbent and the sulfur capacity of two kinds of IL-loaded ACF were 504 and 534 mg SO2/g adsorbent, respectively. Five continuous adsorption-desorption cycles show that the IL-loaded on ACF had an excellent regeneration performance.2) Ionic Liquids (ILs) [C3O1Mim]+[NH2CH2COO]-and [CsO2Mim]+[NH2CH2COO]-were prepared by introducing the amino group to the cation of ether functional ionic liquids. Then Ionic Liquids supported on active carbon fibers were prepared by chemical bonded method. The prepared IL-loaded ACFs were characterized by FT-IR and TG. The desulfurization and regeneration performance were investigated. The adsorption amounts were 72.97 and 83.23 mg SO2/g adsorbent, respectively. The sulfur capacity of two kinds of IL-loaded ACF were 803 and 943 mg SO@/g adsorbent. Five continuous adsorption-desorption cycles show that the IL-loaded ACFs had an excellent regeneration performance.3) The adsorption amount of [C3O1Mim]+[NH2CH2COO]-/ACF and [C5O2Mim]+[NH2CH2COO]-/ACF were higher than the adsorption amount of [C3O1Mim]+[H3CSO3]-/ACF and [C5O2Mim]+[H3CSO3]-/ACF under the same conditions. Five continuous adsorption-desorption cycles show that two kinds of the IL-loaded ACFs had an excellent regeneration performance.
