The demand of water resources is increasing and water shortage is becoming more and more serious with the acceleration of urbanization and industrialization. As the important city in northeast of china, Shenyang is one of 40 major water shortage cities because of severe water shortage. Shortage of water resources has become an important factor that restricting to Shenyang economic and social sustainable development. It has became the only way that using wastewater resources as the second source in order to alleviate water shortage in Shenyang and meet the economic development and business needs. The sewage treatment in Shenyang is in the forefront in our country at present. There are five large sewage treatment plants in Shenyang and the sewage treatment rate has reached 70% or more. However, the discharge of the water also contains lots of polluting substances because of the wastewater only after secondary treatment. Advanced treatment must be employed in order to reuse as fresh water. There are various advanced sewage treatment technology and process currently. How to choose the appropriate technology and make it suiTab for sewage treatment enterprises in Shenyang is the key of sewage treatment project management.The experiences of domestic and foreign showed that advanced sewage treatment can be divided into three methods:biological treatment, physical chemical treatment, membrane treatment. Biological treatment methods and physical and chemical methods are usually used in our country. And all of the three methods have been used at abroad. The discharge water quality can reach water quality requirements of cooling complementary water using in thermal power plants, miscellaneous rinse water using in recycled paper pulp plants and city using water.There are many technologies in advanced sewage treatment, such as coagulation technology, biological treatment technology, ozone technology, membrane separation technology, advanced oxidation technology, activated carbon adsorption and so on. All of the above technologies have been compared in this paper. Biological treatment technology has been chose as the key advanced sewage treatment technology. And it can be promoted in Shenyang.According to the actual situation and policy of water resources, and with reference to the relevant standards of sewage treatment, biological treatment technology is the appropriate technology for advanced wastewater treatment in Shenyang. The appropriate process flow for advanced wastewater treatment is that secondary sewage treatment plant effluentâ†'BAFâ†'V-filterâ†'disinfection, according to the climate and the land usage conditions of Shenyang.It's successful that using the above process flow to treat wastewater deeply in Shenyang Northern Sewage Treatment Plant. And it achieved good social and economic benefits.
