Recently, with the rapidly changing of economic and social structure, and the impact of internationalization and liberalization, New Product Development becomes the important device for enterprise to extend their business field. New Product Development is an activity required sigifcant amount of knowledge. NPD can be decribed as the process of knowledge dynamic activity. Researchers have described new product development as a knowledge-intensive activity and that a cross-functional team was a primary vehicle for such activities. The use of TMS in NPD teams suggests that project team members must utilize each other as an external memory aid to add to and improve their own memories.Based on the literature review of transactive memory system and field surveys, the concept of TMS was introducted, activities of NPD teams were analyzed to determine the antecedents and consequences on the transactive memory systems in this study, collecting data from manufacturing enterprises in China, established the hypothetical model of TMS and NPD team projecet output, and the questionnaire was used for collecting data. Totally 450 questionnaires were sent out while 160 valid ones were got back, the radio of valid questionnaire is 36%. During the procedure of data processing, some methods such as exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), multiple linear regression and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used to verify hypotheses in the model.Through theoretical exploration and quantitative analysis, some important conclusions are as followed:face-to-face communication of team member, virtual dialogue ommunication and interpersonall trust had a positive direct effect on impact on the specialization and coordination which belong to transactive memory system in NPD project, and also coordination of TMS had a positive direct influence on NPD output, such as team learing, speed-to-market, and new product success. The results of this paper have demonstrated that the theory model we had proposed got verification basically, and 9 hypotheses of the 16 had been validated. In short, the results came to our anticipation and had cetain instructional meaning of how to improve NPD output for modern business enterprises.
