Study On The Synthetical Competitiveness Of City And Measurement Of City's Economic Radiation Scope

The level of city competitiveness is one of the important reference indexes in the level of city development. Therefore, the determination of city's competitiveness in recent years is becoming one of the most popular areas studied by experts and scholars.The 21st century is a new era of the economic globalization obviously pacing up,and also a new century of city development and competition. The city is becoming more and more important in the development of country and region. And the competition across the cities is becoming increasingly fierce. Consequently, competitiveness of city has been the focus of all over the world. Facing the common opportunity and challenge,A majority of governments in the cities urgently need to know their levels of development, thereby they can give a proper view on their advantage scarcity in the development, derive the development potential,and reconstruct the pattern of urban development for the fastest development ,accordingly promote the competitiveness of city.Much of the literature about the competitiveness of city is investigated in this paper, then the competitiveness of all the cities in Shaanxi province is exhaustively studied by means of theoretical and empirical analysis. Firstly, the article explains the competitiveness of city in theory,which lay the theory foundation for its empirical analysis. Secondly, the index system of city competitiveness is established by means of the principal-components-analytic method. On this basis, in the article I calculate the synthetic score on the competitiveness of all the cities in Shaanxi province and rank them. Moreover, the locations of breakpoint between the adjoining cities are determined, which are derived by utilizing the weights composed of synthetic score and the theory of breaking point. And according to that facts, the weighted Voronoi diagram showing the influence sphere of 10 cities in Shaanxi province are drawn, which aided by geographical information system software ARC / INFO. This result can provide the specific scope of radiation for the ten cities. Finally some instructive proposals to upgrade the city competitiveness of Shaanxi province are offered.
