The Research Of Sustainable Development On Resources-based Cities In Yunnan Province

Resource-based cities have been developed by exploring and utilizing natural resources, which are base of essential energy resources and raw material in China, and contribute significant part to national economy and social development. Yunnan Province possesses aboundant of mineral resources, and mining as the pillar industry plays a crucial role in development of the provincial economy and social development. However, having been confronted with the issues of exhaustion of resources, industry restructuring, and changes of market demand, Resource-based cities face the challenges not only in providing resources continually needed in national economy development, but also in keeping sustainable development for cities themselves.The paper used methods of theoretical research, historical research and contrastive analysis. By illustrating the theory of development in Resource-based cities can be sustained, drawing lessons from transition experiences of other Resource-based cities both within China and overseas, comparing practice of sustaining development in two typical Resource-based cities, GeJiu and Dongchuang, and analyzing the issues faced by development, the strategy and suggestsion for development of Resource-based cities in Yunan to become sustainable has been proposed. According to research: Resource-based cities in Yunan should use scientific view of development as the leading principle, implementing strategies of industry restructuring step by setp and in proper sequence. In specific, the strategies are composed of utilizing traditional industry advantages to expand and upgrade industrial chains, while activly developing the rising and replacing industries which include tourism, unique agriculture, biological resources and modern logistics, enhancing the measurement of environmental improvement and ecological protection, deveoping recycling economy vigorously, boosting the economic growth towards an energy-efficient and environment-friendly way, hence accomplishing the goal of development of economy, society, and ecological enviromnet in a sustaining and harmonious way for Resource-based cities in Yunan.
