In recent decades, the rapid development of China’s economic developmenthas led to a huge consumption of coal resources. What is worse, there is adepletion trend in coal resources in recent years. Therefore, it is necessary for usto avoid wasting coal resources during the process of coal mining. Consideringthis, scholars around the world carried out many research into Roadway PillarDrift Technology and many significant results have been found. Researchsuggests that reasonable pillar size not only saves coal resources but also haspositive effects on the tunnel surrounding rock control and safety coal mining.This is especially true for high gas coal mine. Reasonable Pillar size for high gascoal mine both minimizes the waste of coal resources and prevents harmfulgases from entering workers’ operating zone through cracks in coal pillar. Thus,further research is still needed as to whether high gas coal mine roadway alongPillar should be maintained or not.This thesis is a adaptability study of coal pillar in8407High Gas MineRoadway of Yangquan coal mining group. This research consists of several parts. First, this thesis theoretically analyzes the destruction of rocks movement abovethe coal pillar in8407High Gas Mine Roadway and then describes the influencecaused by the destruction. Second, the thesis carries on a analysis about internalstress distribution and deformation mechanism for the coal pillars, builds aroadway Pillar mechanical calculation model, device a formula to calculate thereasonable width for coal pillar, and recalculate the reasonable width of coalpillar according to the grouting reinforcement. Third, supplemented by similarmaterial, a simulation is made to restore real coal mining, and a preliminaryestimation about surrounding rock deformation rules and coal pillar is madebased on the observation of coal pillar and coal pillar pressure. Fourth,accordingto the data simulation, an analysis is made as to the strength, the distance, andthe state before and after the grouting reinforcement coal pillars. Fifth, apreliminary discuss is made as to whether continuous perfection of coal pillarsize can be realized. Finally, the field of industrial test is performed to monitorthe actual pressure distribution of working surface, roadways and coal pillarstress, and displacement of rock pressure law. In this paper, the results of thestudy will provide Yangquan Group with practical guidance as to sizeoptimization and support of coal pillar.
