As the most important ingredient in white pigment, dielectric constants andrefractive index of the titanium dioxide are very superior, which is considered to beone of the best white pigment in world today. Improving the dispersion performanceof TiO2can greatly develop the quality of coating products, paint to reduce costs, improve production efficiency. Therefore it will be necessary to research for thesuitable hyperdispersants to disperse the titanium dioxide. In the studies, based on the mechanism of hyperdispersant and physicochemicalproperties of titanium dioxide, sulfonic acid groups hyperdispersants and carboxylicacid hyperdispersants were synthesized, respectively. Moreover, the applications ofthe two hyperdispersants in titanium dioxidedispersions were explored.Through single factor experiment and orthogonal experiment, the monomer ratio, reaction time, reaction temperature, the amount of initiator and other factors in thesynthesis of sulfonic acid groups hyperdispersants process were investigated. Therefore,a better synthesis process route was put forward as follows: reaction timeat9h, temperature at333K, the initiator azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) at4wt%,monomer molar ratio AMPS: MMA:BA=4:72:24.The absorbance and viscosity were characterized to investigate the dispersioneffects of hyperdispersants. A better synthesis route to obtain the carboxylic acidhyperdispersants was got though the single factor experiments: reaction time at9h,temperature at343K, the initiator azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) at2wt%, monomermolar ratio MAA: MMA:BA=20:53:27.The structure of the two hyperdispersants were characterized by infraredspectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography, and the dispersibility in thedispersion of titanium dioxide was studied as well. The effect of the dispersion wasvalued by the viscosity, particle size, film hardness and heat resistance of the titaniumdioxide system. With increment of hyperdispersants, the viscosity value of thedispersion decreased firstly and then increased, whereas the particle size increased firstly and subsequently decreased. A appropriate concentrations in the titaniumdioxide dispersion was obtained, namely, the sulfonate group hyperdispersants was0.5wt%and the carboxylic acid group hyperdispersants was1.0wt%. The dispersioneffect was improved by the two hyperdispersant, and the sulfonic acid groupshyperdispersants exhibited a better performance。...
