Biodiesel derived from animal fats, lignocellulosic materials or waste lipids has given rise to widespread concern as an alternative fuel. The development of biodiesel is not only an critical factor in reducing our dependency on petrol diesel but also a method that can solve the energy shortage and the environmental pollution.However the cold flow property of biodiesel is generally poorer, and then it is diffcult for using biodiesel as supplement energy in the cold condition.In this study, based on the analysis of composition of biodiesel that are prepared with typical materials, the cold flow property of CSME and its blends is studied.The chemical compositions of biodiesel are analyzed by GC-MS, and their molecular structure is investigated on the basis of the hybrid orbital theory. Good correlation models are proposed for prediction CFPP of biodiesel by chemical compositions. The study shows that CFPP of biodiesel is mainly determined by chemical compositions. CFPP increases with the amount and carbon chain length of SFAME.The cold flow properties of CSME, OPD and-10PD are studied by cold filer plugging point tester and viscosity tester. It shows that OPD and-10PD is mainly composed of8-26C n-alkane, and CSME is mainly composed of saturated fatty acid methyl ester(SFAME)(Ci4:o-C22:o) and unsaturated fatty acid methyl ester(UFAME)(C16:1~C20:1, C18:2and C18;3). And the contents of SFAME and UFAME are27.69%and71.65%, respectively. The CFPPs of OPD,-10PD and CSME are-3,-8and-1℃, respectively. At40℃,the viscoties of OPD,-10PD and CSME are2.91,2.53and4.63mm2/s, respectively.With different CSME blending ratio, CSME is blended with OPD and-10PD, respectively. And then the cold flow properties of CSME/OPD and CSME/-1OPD are studied. With increasing CSME blending ratio, the CFPPs of CSME/OPD and CSME/-1OPD are increased firstly, and then decreased. When the CSME blending ratio is50%, the CFPP of CSME/OPD decreases to-8℃, meanwhile when the blending ratio is40%, the CFPP of CSME/-1OPD is-12℃. The viscosities of CSME/OPD and CSME/-1OPD increase with the CSME blending ratio increasing, and with the temperature decreasing the viscosities of blending oils increase rapidly. Through adding cold flow improver (Flow Fit), the cold flow properties of CSME, CSME/OPD and CSME/-10PD are improved. The CSME blending ratio is higher, the adding amount of Flow Fit is larger. Adding less than30.0%o (volume fraction) of Flow Fit, the CFPP of CSME and blending oils decreased significantly. Meanwhile the viscosities of CSME and its blends decrease in a certain degree.
