The outstanding supplier can support the success of corporation strategy, such as cost and marketing strategy, and strengthen the company's competency. But at present, the research on supplier management is limited in domestic, especially to the Private Manufacturing Firm (PMF). Firstly, through the definition and analysis of some important concepts like Supply Chain and the Supply Chain Management, this paper gets its own understanding of these concepts. Through the concept definition of private firm, the author got clear understanding, then through analyzing the national economy and the Yangtze Delta economy, comes conclusions that the research on PMF supplier management has the practical meanings.Through the review of the domestic and foreign literature, the author designed the PMF supplier management survey questionnaire and the interview outlines. Then the author used many kinds of methods liking telephone, Email, fax to ask some relative personnel to finish the questionnaire and accept interview, altogether got back 41 effectively questionnaire;then got two opportunities to visit two Zhejiang PMFs and took the practice chance, discussed with the staff of H Corporation to obtain some advanced supplier management experience. After those work,the author processes the statistical analysis and gets the conclusion of this paper.This paper got deep research from several angles on how the PMFs better manage their suppliers, and the related conclusions are as follow:The current situation of PMF supplier management: In the supplier number there are so many;on cooperation time it is not long, Supplier's flow rate is a little bit high;the cooperation domain mainly concentrated on quality and cost control. In PMF, there is no need to have big number of supplier to keep the bargain in trade;there are "face supplier" problem and spare supplier phenomenon;PMFs are treating impartially to all suppliers, and unable to determine the core and strategic supplier.With questionnaires analyses, the author concludes that at present the PMFs attach supplier development to an very important place, but not active enough, just waiting for the supplier to be active, and also the personal factor is very important in supplier development;when select supplier, the PMFs use price and quality as the major indices, and put less attention to supplier's organizational structure, the management capacity, the training and the historical performance;at present many PMFs don't carry on the evaluation on their suppliers, even they have, the evaluation is gusty, non-regular, always after finding problems in management, and they didn't use the evaluation result and get the result filed;many PMFs thought there is no need to motivate their suppliers, when the PMFs conduct supplier motivation, price, order and elimination are the main ways, but less use the spirit methods such as honor, information and together developing new product.Through the case study of H Corporation, the author gets someadvanced experience in supplier management of H Corporation, such as building the supplier quality management system and etc., which are worthy our country's PMFs to study and use for reference.At last the author put up with some suggestions on how PMFs effectively establish the partner relations with their suppliers, first the author advise PMFs to standard their supplier development flow;to enlarge the supplier management scope and to pay more attention to supplier maintenance;secondly, the author suggests PMF to establish scientific reasonable suppliers selection flow and with the useful selection indices according to the concrete situation of corporation;thirdly, the PMF need to standard supplier evaluation methods;and establish standard supplier evaluation system, which doesn't got unified standard;fourthly, the author put up with supplier evaluation mechanism for PMFs;finally, when the PMFs make their supplier motivation measure, they must consider their own abilities, and use the different kind measures for different rank suppliers, also, the PMFs need many kinds of motivation ways, not only material and mental, but also using some negative measures at the right moment to motivate their suppliers.
