Optical DWDM technology with ultra-high-speed and large-capacity is the best choice for metro network development. Its speed is 40 Gb/s, which makes the best demand of the growth of IP broadband services, Its system have some advantage of maintenance simply, in system, esey scheduling, etc. But the higher the transmission rateis, the more problems we must solve, especially for metro network with complex and changeable structure. Aiming at metro DWDM system with 40Gb/s, some problems were analyzed and simulated. Specific work and conclusions are as follows:(1) Point to point 40G DWDM systems which applies to MAN were analyzed and simulated, then it gets that the most preferable transmitter modulation format (MDRZ) in short-distance transmission ,because it can achieve good performance and meet the cost requirements of metro, economic effective dispersion compensation method (DCF pre-compensation) and the maximum transmission distance without amplifiers or dispersion compensation.(2) A simple optical ring metro network was designed, and part of problems of power budget, amplifier control mode and the bandwidth to control interband crosstalk, need to be considered in the design were researched and simulated, and the conclusions are as follows: Due to the dynamic nature of MAN, the ring must be designed with unity-gain amplifier to meet the power requirements of each node; Amplifier should be set to gain control mode in order to achieve good transmission results; The appropriate filter bandwidth should be choosed to control the crosstalk generation.
