The technology of the laser range finder is a kind of comparatively extensive laser technology at present. Comparing with other general method of range finder, it has a lot of advantages, such as easy to operate, high precision, available at any time and any where, etc. With the rapidly dev1opment of technology in area of laser, digital signal processing,integration electric circle,precision machines and so on, laser range finder are making progress continually towards high precision,digitalization, miniaturization and low-power, especially after the extensive application of semiconductor laser device.There are mainly two kinds of laser range finder, the pulse laser range finder and the phase laser range finder. Pulse laser range finder holds the characters of short continuing time of laser pulse, relatively centralized power referring to time and high instantaneous power, which is well applied to long-distance range detection. Phase laser range finder makes it possible to use low power laser device, and it can also be modulated in the condition of high frequency and keeps high precision measuring within short distance,which can be applied to short-distance laser detection.In this paper, a laser range finder system which both measures the laser flight time and the echo phase shift was designed. This system used the DSP chip TMS320VC5402 as core to realize system control, digital phase discrimination and data processing. It used DDS technology to produce high stability measurement signals, used pulse counter to realize rough measurement and used the DSP to do the digital phase discrimination to realize the precise measurement. As a result, it improved the precision and reliability of the distance measurement.
