Non-photorealistic Rendering is a new subject in Computer Graphics and image processing. It pursuit a new style by simplified the shape of the object and ignored the unrelated details. In this process, people's own subjective feeling was emphasized and thus beauty was brought to everyone.Non-photorealistic Rendering was divided into both three-dimensional space and two-dimensional space. The styles of Non-photorealistic Rendering based on two-dimensional space were multiplicity and had different forms. Cartoon was one of the Non-photorealistic Rendering styles showed by plastic arts. It had become one of the people's most favorite media propagating forms. It also had wide applications on TV anime,cartoon movies,computer games and so on. This paper studied in depth about the style of cartoon.The cartoon rendering all had obvious outline and clear-cut color. Then we finished the cartoon rendering through searched image edges, image manipulation and filled color three processes. The first two processes were image segmentation. Image segmentation was a technology and process that refers to make the image into regions with same characteristics and extract the interested objects.This paper introduced three processes of the cartoon rendering in details. It used the Ant colony algorithm to search and extract the image edge and introduced the concept of"Elite ants"to combine with the Ant colony algorithm to search and extraction the image edge can optimize the search process and improve the speed. It came up with a new region division algorithm according to connectivity of image and then filled the average color in every region. The cartoon rendering was more visualize and beautiful.
