In the long river of human history, nations from different parts of the world created all kinds of distinctive visual symbols which became a major component of the world's diversified civilization and culture. Visual symbols showed its unique charm and power in the communication of information, in particular the cross-cultural communication, due to its widespread, direct, open and translatable characteristics. The essence of the design is the cultural communication of visual content creativity, focusing on the visual language structure and symbol environmental research. The premise for this study is to analyze its situation and semantics and to define the space time. Exploring the principle, mechanism, hierarchy, and methods of the visual symbol's cross-cultural communication can enrich the theoretical content of the communication and provide the methodological guidance to the practice of the communication. The oval structure study focused on both visual symbols and cross-cultural communication presentes complex situation of the subject and object in cross-cultural communication of the visual symbols. In this research the author chooses broadcaster and recipient as the subject and the object to study the base, method, process and effect of their interaction. In this way, we can reveal that the cross-cultural communication of visual symbol is a two-way process that the information carried by visual symbols interacts, communicates and influences each other in the subjects and objects from different cultual systems. From the birth of the universal visual symbos to the popularity of the mordern network symbols, the visual symbols in the brand strategy became a means of commercial marketing and moreover the Olympics and World Expo also become big events of cross-cutral communication of the visual symbols. If we look back the history of the development of the designing of visual symbols and how it became a media of cross-cutural communication, we should realize that the design of the visual symbols must root in the cutural tradition and artistic style of the nation, it must reflect the distiction of the common national culture. If we want to make the Chinese national visual symbols recognized in the cross-cultural communication, we should absorb the essence of various cultures and conduct creation based on national culture by modern diversified creativity. We also need to analyze the natural, social and psychological factors that affect the cross-cultural communication of the visual symbols, reconsider the defects in the current communication, and discuss the evaluation criteria. We'll take both the design and the communication to make Chinese visual symbols into a broader and brighter world and establish a better status in the cross-cultural communication.
