With the rapid development of network technology, the demand for net work services have become diverse. In a variety of services, many people were optimistic about the IPTV.IPTV take advantage of the traditional digital television and the modern IP interactive technology to provide users with live television,timeshift television,video-on-demand,web browsing,games and other interactive business in internet through the IP network. Greatly enriching peoples family life, IPTV is developing rapidly in recent years.A IPTV Embedded Streaming Media Player has designed and implemented in this thesis.The player,as the ultimate expression of the streaming media business,runs in the terminal equipment, the television set-top box. Based on the embedded Linux operating system,it has many functions and is pprtable;and it is able to play the medias from internet,medias in local storage devices and medias in media sharing system and it supports H.263/H.264/MPEG4/Real video decoding and MP3/AAC/COOK audio decoding.It is convenient to maintenance, migration and add new functionality as a result of being designed to Modules.Firstly, IPTV and streaming media technology are introduced,and the IPTV development status and prospects are pointed out.Then introduce the process of set up the system development environment and related technologies used in developing the player.The design and implementation of the embedded IPTV streaming media player go into details. The test results show that the player satisfys the demand, consumes less system resources, operates stablely and reliablely.The desired Target is to achieve and the system has been commercialized.
