With the rapid development of embedded microprocessors, video/ image processing and network communication technologies, embedded network multimedia terminal has became the mainstream design technology of network multimedia system. Currently, the technology is widely used in the applications of remote video surveillance, video conferencing, IP network cameras, medical image processing, video phones and other networked multimedia systems.In order to solve the problems of high complexity, high costs, long development cycle and other issues, which faced by multimedia applications when implemented on a traditional embedded platform, Texas Instruments (TI) launched the Da Vinci technology in 2005. As the adoption of new processor architecture, complete supporting software and efficient development tools, DaVInci has got widely concern and recognition in the area. And It also represents a new developing direction of the embedded multimedia information processing platform. Therefore, there is a certain kind of practical value to implement the real-time image transmission on the platform which the embedded multimedia terminal network is developed based on DaVinci technology.TMS320DM6446 is the first batch of DaVinci processors introduced by TI, using ARM+ DSP dual-core architecture and is a kind of SoC with high quality. With the systematic control of the ARM core, complicated video/image data process of the DSP, all ARM-DSP-based hardware and software could seamlessly integrated to work together,which is under the DaVinci software framework. Coupled with its high-performance, low power consumption and 65-nm Technology, it will be widely used in the embedded multimedia information processing. Based on DaVinci processors TMS320DM6446, this paper developed a new generation of embedded network multimedia terminal system, including:the test and debug of the hardware platform of the system; the building of the ARM core-based embedded Linux system; the grafting development of the Linux driver; the building of DSP Server with the compressing algorithm of the JPEG image.With the embedded multimedia terminal system, the real-time image acquisition compression and network transmission will be implemented under the DaVinci software framework. The use of hardware and software system in an experiment of image data transmission quality over IP network, will test the system properties and the network quality, and it will evaluate the properties of the DaVinci platform as well as providing basis for the quality optimization over IP networks.
