The 3G (third generation mobile network) is being deployed all over the world. The technology innovation makes it have the advantage of broadband, transmission rate and Qos. WCDMA is one of the most competitive standards of 3G mobile communication system.The base station is the most important equipment when the telecom carriers deploy the network. The base station need to be configured in order to meet planning requirements and optimize the network performance. While the WCDMA telecom carriers accelerating the deployment and upgrade of the equipments, the requirment of the base station's function also changes. This resulted in numerous versions of the base station, a equipment provider often provide dozens of different base stations. This results in high demand of the data configuration of the base stations. The traditional base station comfiugration software only provide command line to configure data, and only a single base station version be supported. In order to make the telecom carries configure the base station's data quikly and reduce the cost, our project is to develop a software by which the base station's data can be graphically displayed and multiple versions of the WCDMA base station can be configured at the same time.This project comes from one of Chinese leading telecommunication equipment providers. In order to make the software can configure different versions of base stations and is easy to maintain, the system must have good reusability and maintainability. The system achieves the purpose by using the meta-data and design patterns. So this paper mainly studies the meta-data and design patterns applied in the system. The GUI of configuration can be gernerated automaticlly by the metadata of GUI saved in XML file; the database tables can be shared by different verions'base station by the metadata of database,so the effectiveness, range, and display name of fields in database table can be changed accrording to the base station's version; factory method pattern make business rule checking procedure decoupled with the base station version; the coniguration GUI can be builded dynamicly by the application of abstract factory pattern.In the end, the paper concludes with a discussion of the work need to be improved and further researched.
