Micro electro-chemical machining (Micro-ECM) is one of the most important research area in Minuteness Processing field, it has been achieved much attention around the world. Pulse power supply which is applied in the micro electro-chemical machining field is an important part of micro-machining system, its performance has greatly influence on the technic index of micro-ECM. Thus, it is greatly significant to research the pulse power supply which should be met the micro-machining requirements. Many research experiences in home and abroad show that the controllable single pulse energy and high frequency narrow-width pulse power supply is one of the effective way to achieve the micron-level electrochemical machining precision. All of these would be the base theory of developing the narrow width pulse power supply.Firstly, the basic principle of micro electro-chemical machining pulse power supply is introduced. Pulse power parameters affected the precision of micro electro-chemical machining and the possibility affected the achievement of narrow pulse width are theoretically analyzed and discussed.Base on the technical requirements of the micro electro-chemical machining pulse power supply, the hardware design scheme for narrow width pulse power is put forward. The pulse power supply control unit is based on the MCU and CPLD, and main discharge circuit, control loop and feedback control loop are designed by module ways. At the same time, all the sub-module of high frequency pulse generator units are fully simulated by the ModelSime SE, and the scheme feasibility has been verified.PC interface and software system of narrow width pulse power are designed base on the platform of hard system of narrow width pulse power supply. The following control tasks are achieved based on the software system:data communications, pulse power supply parameters and machining parameters within a certain range online set and discharge gap detection and so on.Finally, contrastivly machining experiment of micro-hole on the micro machining device for the nickel are carried out based on the narrow width pulse power supply under different pulse width. The output pulse waveform of critical modules are observed and analyzed. The experiments show that the surface precison of micro-hole is high and the design scheme of narrow pulse width is feasible.
