Classification is an important means of recognizing and developing file information. With the modernization of records management and extensive use of archival information resources, the standardization of archival information classification is particularly important. " Chinese Archives classification system", as the common classification standards for archival information, is an important archival information retrieval language. On the one hand, it provides scientific rules and methods for the organization of information resources, on the other hand it provides an effective way for the browse and retrieve of information. However, since its promulgation in 1997, it has exposed some inconsequence of design, as well as some conflict and deviate from the practice of archive when used, such as the inflexible setting of classes, lack of display of relevant entries, nonstandard definition of entries. In particular, under the electronic environment, the original classification can not meet the digital archives information management requirements, which is not conducive to the classification or indexing of archival information, and the management and development of classification neither. Therefore, the "Chinese Archives classification system" is facing severe challenges. In order to share the information resources better in a unified platform, the classification must make a further revision and improvement. Based on this, this article comprehensively studies the "Chinese archival classification system", and does some useful exploration for the future construction. This article is divided into four parts. The first section describes the history and development of information classification, focuses on the definition and characteristics of archival information classification as well as the nature and characteristics of classification standard. Archival information classification standard, also called archival classification system, is composed by a hierarchy of a category structure, which embodies the various relationships between the archival information. Different from other classifications, archival classification has its unique characteristics. The second section introduces the "Chinese archival classification system" in detail. The part analyses its structure, characteristics in-depth. It's a classification full of Chinese characteristics, which is based on the characteristics of archives. It has some features:classification based on function, the objective of setting and so on.The third part is the main body of the article, it discusses the problems and its cause. The "Chinese archival classification system has some problems after test and practice. Category system setting is not clear, so it's easy to get lost when classifying. Lack of flexibility makes the classification not flexible enough. Few retrieve entry makes retrieves efficiency low. And it's also unable to adapt to the digital environment. These problems not only reflect immature of the preparation technologies, but also show that with the development of society, classification must update on constant. The fourth part is the significant part, it mainly raises some useful proposals from the view of preparation techniques, preparation concept, preparation environment, such as the unity of subject classification, electronic version of the development of indexing and so on, to find development way of the "Chinese archival classification system", to meet the development trend. The improvement of the "Chinese archival classification system" is not done once for ever, it must improve along with the development and change of archival management and information technology constantly. Only theory and practice have continuous interaction, the archival information classification standards and norms will gradually be perfect, the sharing of information will have a more unified platform.
