Nowadays, with the global digitalization impelling, high capacity and high speed network has been a certain tendency. After several years development, the beneficiary of global 1.25G speed-rate EPON is more than 30 million, however, because of the gradually fast fusion of IPTV, voice and data network, the existing network bandwidth of 1.25G EPON can't meed the need of future high bandwidth of operator. So 10G Ethernet Passive Optical Network (10G EPON) technology is certainly promising and operable solution which is ten times as larger as bandwidth 1.25G EPON possess. Meanwhile 10G EPONcan be compatible with core protocol of 1.25G EPONThe paper first elaborates the basic structure of PON system, and its key techonology. Then put forward the challenge and bottleneck PON system will face, then find a solution. Next describe the 10G EPON structure and merits and demerits, after that compare the 10G GPON with all aspects. The charpter 4 discuss evolution key technology from 1.25G/2.5G EPON to 10G EPON, DBA, security, compatibility with 1.25G/2,5G EPON system. The charpter 5 indicates the PON system choice that every companies in the field will determine, show 10G EPON developing tendency and predict the future status of 10G EPON in broad optical access development. The charpter 6 make a conclusion about the whole paper.
