YH-I (Yin He-I) supercomputer is the first supercomputer capable of 100 million calculations per second which is independently studied and made by China, the direct outcome of China's reform and opening, and the typical model of China's engineering innovation. The researches on the engineering history of YH-I and engineering philosophy have a great significance on the theory and practice of engineering innovation in modern China and also can provide historical experience for building innovative state.Based on the original archives and literature about the YH supercomputer capable of 100 million calculations per second engineering and from the perspective of engineering philosophy, this thesis in detail reviewed the historic process of the making-decision, approval and execution of the engineering, systematically analyzed the historic background of the impending demands on supercomputer from defense technology, national economy, scientific research and talents cultivation, made an in-depth discussion on the technological access, concepts and design of engineering and the philosophical mechanisms in engineering execution, profoundly showed the basic characteristics of the commanding system, organization, guaranteeing, institutional laws, talents cultivation and political work in the YH-I engineering, and objectively commented on the historical status and influences of YH-I engineering in the field of China's supercomputer.
