In recent years, ZigBee technology is widely applied for short-range wireless communication.IEEE802.15.4 protocal provides a standard communication solutions included MAC layer and physical layer for the ZigBee technology. However, most ZigBee nodes use battery-powered, its own can not automatically complement energy and it's energy is in short supply. In order to extend the life cycle of nodes, energy consumption becomes one of consideration needed for ZigBee wireless communication network. On the other hand, the condition require very high real-time and reliability for the applications of ZigBee wireless communication network, time delay has also become one of the important consideration needed for ZigBee wireless communication.Considering two different situations above, this thesis try to achieve relative equilibrium of energy consumption and time delay through studying IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocol energy consumption and time delay.This thesis consists of five parts: First, the background and related work of the research task is introduced; Secondly, IEEE802.15.4 protocol is analysised in-depth, we put emphasis on the super-frame structure and the allocation mechanism of GTS in IEEE802.15.4 MAC protocol; Thirdly, the basic principles and improvement of some GTS allocation mechanism scheduling algorithm in IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocol are analysised;Fourthly, for star topology network and tree topology network respectively, a new of the trade-off of energy consumption and time delay GTS allocation mechanism scheduling algorithm in IEEE802.15.4 MAC protocol is proposed; Finally, with the NS2 simulation software in linux operating system, we verify the accuracy and effectiveness of the trade-off of energy consumption and time delay GTS allocation mechanism scheduling algorithm in IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocol, which proposed in the paper.
