With the extending scale and increasing complexity of Internet, it is more and more difficult to design and manage network. To evaluate Internet running status and to know network characteristics efficiently and exactly is the key tasks for network management and maintenance. Delay is one of the important parameters in network characteristics, the behavior of which is mostly dependent on the performance of one way. So it is especially important to measure and estimate the end-to-end delay.A new method on monitoring the delay performance of the network from end to end is proposed in this dissertation. This method is based on the Statistics and average. By calculating the clock frequency difference of the two terminals on the network, the end-to-end delay variation can be monitored more accurately. According to the different intervals between sender and the receiver, using large interval and large number of samples obtained, the average ratio is calculated, which can be applied to approximate the real clock frequency difference. Furthermore, the approximate value can be used to adjust the delay curve in time in order to get the true status of the network. In order to validate this method, the topology and the network protocols are also analyzed. By programming the code in VC++6.0 environment a testing tool is implemented. Both theoretic analysis and experiment results show that this method is usefully on reflecting the changes of network delay and can be used to provide strong support for the analysis of network performance.
