Under the great driven power of commercial business, the chips are becoming smaller and cheaper. At the same time, development in VLSI design techniques have made high performance signal processing chip a reality, and the digital filters are more and more important. The specification of area and power are necessarily improved without decreasing the signal noise ratio. Taking communication system as an example, there are several stages of filters to recover the baseband signal. How to obtain a better filter is in the crucial path of whole design flow.There are always several data rates in one signal processing part of a chip, so it is necessary to have multirate filter system to convert the sampling rate, as down or up sampling. It is significant to design simple but good enough filters to construct the whole system under complex harmonic interference environment. The Fm Radio on chip project in Infineon Technologies gives me great help to finish this thesis. The research focuses mainly on the filters which recover the baseband signal after the frequency has been mixed down. And also other filters in the frequency conversion part have been researched. Especially two kinds of filters: wave digital filter and cascaded integrator comb filter have been deeply researched and implemented in the project.During this research, the advantages and pitfalls of these two kinds of filters have been analyzed. And some optimize methods have been carried out for CIC filters and WDF filters. And the multipliers in the filters have been implemented using kinds of optimize algorithms. As a result, the optimized multipliers lead to decrease the area of module on chip by 4.65%. The power consumption of the chip has also been decreased due to modification of the whole chip.
