In today of the rapid development of science and technology, we are not satisfied with the information in single division style. People have general attention to the intuitive graphical and image information. It becomes an important problem that how to convert the graphics and images into the digital signals, and how to input it to the computer conveniently and quickly. The birth of scanner finds a solution for this problem.Nowadays, demands of the professional scanners are increased in much more fields of application, linear scanning as the main form of conventional scanning scanners need to have a new breakthrough. The staring scanner which designed in this paper can achieve high efficiency, resolution and scanning effects.The composition of staring scanner is analyzed firstly. After choosing and determination of the detector and light source, the illumination system is analyzed briefly. In the staring scanner system, the key part is the imaging optical system. It could make the scanned material imaging on the detector. Therefore the design quality of the imaging systems will affect the image quality directly. Based on spectral properties of light source and characters of detector, the main parameters of imaging optical system is confirmed. Start from the general requirements of imaging optical system, the optical system is designed and optimized by the Zemax software. It is shown that the optimized aberration results meet the requirements perfectly. The distortion is less than 4% , the spot radius is smaller than the pixel size of detector, and the modulating transfer function is near to diffraction limit.
