Cashmere is taken from the fine layer of villa of goats. It is uniform and soft, reputed to be the king of the fiber. China holds the important share in the world trade of cashmere and wool in the production, processing and expert. With more and more cashmere/wool blend fabrics been exported, the measure of blend ratio becomes more important for the rights and interests of the maintenance enterprise, the business and the consumer. We pay more attention of the products' quality, the trademark marking authenticity and accuracy, how to identify and measuring effective, fast and accurate has the quite vital significance to the trade transaction examination.Due to the particularity of cashmere and wool, a complete set of international standard is still not available in the market, which makes the cashmere products from China a passive position in the international trade. The main identification methods of wool and cashmere are optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), stretching liquid quantitative analysis, CAT, electrophoresis, DNA analysis, hydrometer method, amino acid analysis, etc. However, none of them can guarantee the accuracy and efficiency simultaneously. This paper shows a recognition method for wool and cashmere fiber based on the character of the spectral line. Firstly, the images of the wool and cashmere fibers are taken using optical microscope. Secondly, the surface information of the wool and cashmere fibers is obtained from the images by the image processing method. Thirdly, the spectral lines of the wool and cashmere fiber are extracted by a local projection method with feature segmentation. The features of each spectral line such as unit width, unit peak value and coefficient of dispersion are extractedaccording to the different characteristics of the surface. Finally, wool/cashmere blends aredifferentiated based on the analysis on the features of these spectral lines. This research indicates that the feature extraction and analysis can effectively identify wooland cashmere through analyzing the histogram of several characteristic parameters. It alsoindicates that the identification of wool and cashmere based on the spectral lines is feasible withhigher precision distinction.
