This article is mainly about fault diagnosis of machine based on vibration signal processing and modal analysis and theirs application. It also gives the design of a kind of fault diagnosis system of machine.At the beginning of this article, the basic methods of acquisition the fault characteristic information from the vibrating signal for the equipment is presented. They are classified to the analysis in the time domain and the analysis in the frequency domain including correlation analysis, waveform analysis, power spectrum and the cepstrum analysis, etc. The emphasis is on the application of wavelet analysis in the fault diagnosis.Secondly, started with the classical definition of modal analysis, we discuss the modal theory in details by analyzing a liner elastic system of N degree of freedom. And we study the real-modal analysis, complex-mode analysis and modal parameter identification, too. The destination of modal analysis is that diagnose the fault of machine using results of modal parameter identification.Thirdly, the equipment trouble diagnosis and the status inspection using modal analysis were studied. We discuss the natural frequency and vibration mode resulting from modal analysis, which can help us intuitively observed dynamic characteristics of the machine equipment. According to the change of parameters of dynamic characteristics, we can estimate the fault type and the fault position.Finally, the fault monitoring system based on modal analysis and vibration signal processing is designed and discussed. The working principle of system was researched and the software and hardware of the system was designed.
