The current financial crisis is triggered by "sub-loan crisis in the United States, and then turned into a financial storm which has swept the globe. Economic development of China has been mainly export-oriented, as a result, a range of sectors in china have been suffering from varying degrees of impact in this financial crisis. In this case, many of the Chinese media, without exception, attached great importance to this crisis and carried out a large number of reports. This paper picked up "People's Daily", "Economic Observer", and "Beijing Times" as the research objectives from a number of Chinese newspapers and the research focused on comparative analysis and data statistics of reports which the three newspapers did about the financial crisis in November 2008. The aim of this research was to gain a better understanding of the different characteristics of the reports about the financial crisis which the three newspapers had published. On this basis, the paper put forward some suggestions on the development of economic reports in City News. From the aspects of news value, Chapter I explored commonalities and individualities of reports about this financial crisis in the three newspapers. The purpose was achieved through an analysis consisting of five elements of news value --timing, significance, notability, proximity and human.Chapterâ…¡analyzed genres and news sources of the reports about financial crisis three newspapers published. Results revealed, compared with "People's Daily" and "Economic Observer", the articles of "Beijing Times" took the reports as their genre mainly and were short of depth reporting; as for news resources, these articles came from Xinhua News Agency primarily, in other words, the news which they covered by themselves took small proportion.Chapterâ…¢focused on the comparative analysis of the reports content, the characteristics of these three newspapers were revealed through policy reports (Policy Bulletin & Policy Interpretation) and the analysis of forecast (causes analysis, impact analysis, trend forecasting, and reactions from various sectors, etc). Firstly, as an official newspaper of the CPC Central Committee, "People's Daily" was concerned about changes of national principles and policies under the crisis and its policy interpretations took the majority of their reports. In contrast, "Economic Observer" is a professional economic newspaper; the positioning of the newspaper is bound to determine that its emphases should be on the analysis and forecasting of the economic situation. Differing with two newspapers we mentioned above, "Beijing Times", although its prospective readers are city residents, reported principally simple policy bulletins and failed in showing due attention on the people on the sides of policy interpretation, impact analysis, reactions of all sectors and so on.On the basis of investigation of first few chapters, Chapter IV shed some light on the development of economic reports of City News. These suggestions included paying more attention on the secondary exploitation of economic news, increasing the numbers of depth coverage; citizen-based, closing to the people's lives, enhancing the professionalism of journalists, strengthening originality of the articles; being more professional on reporting the issues, and analyzing the problem from amateur views.
