The development of mobile industry in china is very quick, from buying ripe project to designing independently, just within 3 or 4 years, the mobile industry in china has developed to flourishing status. So, more and more antenna manufacturers for mobile phone grow fast. But most antenna suppliers just care about the temporary profit, while ignoring the technology of the antenna design. This influences the development of the antenna in china. Actually, antenna can impact the TX and RX function in a mobile phone directly. Furthermore, the quality of the antenna will decide the quality of the phone in market. All famous mobile manufacturers R&D in developed countries regard the antenna design from the former period. But in china, most of the middle and small manufacturers take little care about the antenna design. They think the antenna just as one common component in the phone. Therefore, for pursuing the profit of the market, they compress the antenna space more and more. However, such simple compress in space without any care for the space requirement of the antenna base on antenna theory will cause severe performance degradation. Specifically, this will cause the terminal customer cannot accept the quality of service the mobile terminals provide. As a result, the manufacturers have to give up the on-going project or redesign. In turn, this will then waste resource, lost business chance, and cut down the competitive capability of the phone manufacturers. So, it is clear that the study on the design and optimization for mobile terminal antenna is absolutely necessary and important. This thesis is organized as follow. Above all, we introduce the researching background with analyzing several types of antenna. Then the explanation of basic knowledge and the theory of the mobile terminal antenna design are given in details. Furthermore, we supply a series of projects for the PIFA antenna design and optimization. Particularly, this thesis includes performance simulations and relative experiments. Finally, we get several important conclusions. Adding one capacitance frame can decrease the PIFA size, but at the same time this reduces the bandwidth. So we design another way to enlarge the bandwidth. Such method uses the T shape ground, and we conduct the proving simulation to verify its performance. In order to improve the function of the antenna, we also provide a novel design which unifies the L&U antenna together.
