Nowadays, in the mass customization environment, product design technology has become the focus of research and application in range of academics at home and abroad.Part library,as an important support tool for product design, is used by enterprise to reuse the existed design resources in process of product design.Thus,it can save much time and manpower, which has been widely used in the manufacturing industry.With the development of information technology, a lot of achievements have been made for the theory of part library and the method of building part library.However, both web standard part library and part library built in enterprise lack of integration and scalability,it is urgent to research on the method of building the customizable part library in order to adapt the various products, which would help to build a open part library suitable for a certain enterprise.This paper studies the structure and implement method of the open part library system based on PDM/PLM (product data management/product lifecycle management) platform for product design.Firstly, the method of building part library is detailed. Then, in this paper, part flexible classification and coding as well as part parametric design are studied in chapter three and four. At last, the functional model and information model of part library are constructed based on analysis of the demands and use cases. Meanwhile, meta-database and tables are also designed. The main content of the paper is as follows:1. The flexible and scalable open part library is presented by using template technology aiming to solve the widespread problems in existing part library, by analyzing application and development of the existing part library2. In order to enquire fast and efficiently, coding design of part library is studied considering the problems in part flexible classification and coding system.3. Parametric part design is an important aspect in saving product design cycle, meeting the demand of the growing number of parts in enterprise. Therefore parametric part library is built using CAD model as parametric model, reducing the storage of part library.4. Module division of part library system is done according to the modular system design ideas. Meanwhile, the functional model and information model of part library are constructed based on the analysis of demands and use cases.
