Sichuan Network Communication Key Laboratory (SC-Netcom Lab) introduced a new network architecture called Single physical layer User-data switching Platform Architecture (SUPA) to overcome the challenges of high-speed switching, Quality of Service (QoS) assurance, network security and mobility in Internet. The network combined with SUPA architecture ideas and Ethernet-oriented Physical Frame Timeslot Switching (EPFTS) technology is called SUPA Network (SUPANET).Because SUPANET is at present compatible with the Internet router protocol stack, based on a same SUPANET core network, the aim of researching Virtual Router in this paper is to build virtual core networks for different groups themself independent to have the management capabilities of Virtual Router in SUPANET.This paper focuses on the key technology of User-platform (User-data transfer & switching Platform) of Virtual Router based on SUPANET. Having carefully studied the operation of SUPANET, the author analyzes the protocol architecture of the router of SUPANET, which is the basis of researching the Virtual Router of SUPANET, and discusses the division of the physical router into Virtual Routers based on SUPANET. After divided into Virtual Routers, the router of SUPANET needs to accomplish many tasks, which include: the way to tag the Ethernet-oriented Physical Frame (EPF) frames of each Virtual Router; the way the EPF frames of each Virtual Router distribute the timeslot in the related optical fiber; the process of QoS negotiation; the scheduling of EPF frames; the process of communication between end systems. These problems have been discussed in this paper.OPNET is used to simulate the scheme proposed in this paper. The simulation focuses on the process of generating switching table in router which has been divided into Virtual Routers. The results of the simulation meet the requirements and validate the feasibility of building virtual core networks based on a SUPANET core network.
