Digital image processing technology is a new science research field which has more development potential. The detection of traffic information based on video is compared with tradition detection, it has many merits, such as the installation simplicity, maintenance expediently, wide range of detecting, various information and so on. Video traffic already becomes an important research direction intelligence traffic system.This thesis regards traffic scene picture obtained by camera as the research object, have deeply study about color stability of traffic video, color characteristics of traffic video, color characteristics of traffic incident video and feasibility under different weather. Mainly contents include:(1) This thesis's background and meaning, the present condition of traffic incident detection study, this study's purpose and contents and common methods of traffic incident detection.(2) Common based-on video's vehicle detection methods: virtual loop, moving object detection, vehicle division, and vehicle tracking. Introduced some color space. Study of traffic video color's distribution in time and frequency domain. Confirmed stability of traffic video. DSP's transform for traffic video color analyze in frequency domain. Point out and verify those transform's applicability in traffic incident detection.(3) Analyze characteristics' between traffic video and traffic incident video. Advanced methods based-on those different to detect traffic incident.(4) Test and analyze methods' applicability in those different weather traffic videos.
