The wireless sensor network is based on the computer technology communication and sensors technology. The wireless sensor nerwork is a rising next generation network. Advance in MEMS, SOC (System on Chip) and Wireless Communication has made the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). As a novel information acquiring and process technology, compared to other traditional network, the Wireless Sensor Network pays more attention to the information-transport. The first part of this paper starts from the construction and system of the wirelss sensor network, instruct the characters of the WSN, the recent hot points on the WSN research field and the application of WSN. Then describe several kinds of wireless network routing protocols, such as the AODV, DSDV, LEACH and so on protocols. Next describe, based on the Network Simulator 2 (NS2), how to simulate and analyze the AODV, DSDV, LEACH, LEACH-C and MTE routing protocols and how to analyze their results of the simulation record. Based on the result of simulation data, their network performance is discussed and compared.As so far, the second of this paper, on the basis of analysis of architecture, requirements and application background of WSN in details, this paper proposes a wireless sensor node hardware platform design proposal based on low power MCU MSP430 and RF chip CC2500, and describes each component of this design. The microcontroller uses SPI protocol to communicate with radio chip. The microcontroller works in the master mode, and CC2500 works in the slave mode. Apart from the MCU and RF chip, this system also adopts a series of peripheral devices to enrich its function. Additionally, after realization of the hardware platform, the software design of this system is also completed.The application of WSN nodes and characteristics of WSN both determine that the WSN nodes must be paid much attention on low power design. Hence, this paper also discusses how to achieve low power level from software and hardware design, and proposes some methods for reducing power consumption.Finially, the system in this paper provides an integrity design to realize transmitting or receiving nodes of WSN. And the practical result demonstrates the superior performance of this design. The design and realization of the sensor nodes laid foundation for further study of wireless sensor network and provided reference for other development of wirelss embedded communication devices.
