As telecommunication technology evolves dramatically today, the competition among carriers in the telecom industry has become more and more intensive. In order to become the leading service provider, carriers have to focus on improving both quality of service and efficiency of operation and maintenance. Even though telephone switching networking technology has not been the hot-spot of telecommunication networking for recent years, it has been the most fundamental and most important technology for networking vendor, and also the primary income source for the enterprise, thus it is very important to research on the network management mechanism to improve the network operational performance, reduce the cost, and enhance the efficiency. Facing the continuous improvement of NGN technology, traditional switching network will evolve toward NGN gradually, so it is significant to research on how to make the network management technology independent of networking evolution.Network management system and the network switching technology are two different layers. The switching network originates from the telecommunication technology, while the network management system is more related to the application of computer technology. Due to the continuous improvement of the switching network equipment, the evolution of the network management system is relatively passive, among the all the most critical part is the interface between the two layers-data collection, so this thesis focuses on the design of data collection aspect of the switching network management system.As an essential function of data processing in network management system (NMS) of switching systems, data and information in switching system should be extracted from lower level through vendor's interface in accuracy, integrity and real-time, and ultimately applied by various application programs in the upper layer.In this research, there are two steps in data collection of switching systems, i.e. collection adaption and dynamic interface. Leveraging various protocol adapters, collection adaption is to implement the handshake and communication with various network element (NE), raw data collection, and storage of traffic, alarm, and configuration in NE. Dynamic interface is responsible for raw data identification, processing, storage, and real-time transfer. Benefiting from the highly flexible configuration method provided by the dynamic interface, the adaptive capability of NMS is improved dramatically, and make system processing consistent. Since provision data reflects the difference between the models of the switches, and the change of raw data can be accommodated through the change of the provision data, the cost and the workload of system operation, administration and maintenance (OAM) and upgrade can be reduced significantly, and problems of rewriting of programs for system processing due to change of format, content of raw data, or change of structure of database can be solved.This thesis has provided detailed analysis of data requirement and functional requirement of a switching network management system, and researched on the center piece of the dynamic interfacing technology, i.e., the way to separate the data content from data format. It also researched on the CORBA's distributed architecture, and described the practical implementation of data collection system in details. It analyzed the system's implementation method for different vendor interface in depth. May it contribute to the future implementation and evolution of network management systems.
