Ad Hoc is a self-organized wireless network which is independent of any established infrastructure and has highly dynamic topology. Every node is working as termination and router at the same time. It has a broad prospect in the area of civilian and military communication.Energy limited is one of the main issues in the Ad Hoc Network currently. The node in the Ad Hoc network is usually equipped with portable battery, and the battery capacity is limited. So how to save battery power effectively needs to be resolved urgently. Power aware routing protocol is proposed based on the above background. The performance parameters of traditional routing protocols are routing hops, delay and throughput. Such measurements could lead to excessive use of nodes with lower power, which is hamful to the network performance. Power aware routing considers the transmission power and network lifetime mainly. This dissertation makes a research on the power aware routing protocol PA-OLSR based on OLSR (Optimized Link State Routing).OLSR is a table driven routing protocol proposed by IETF MANET workgroup, which is an optimization of the link state routing for Ad Hoc network. The core technique of OLSR is multi-point relay, and can dapt to large-scale and dense network. Taking into account the frequency of packet data transmission and channel competition, it's important to introduce the power control mechanism in the large-scale network.PA-OLSR makes an improvement on the routing algorithm, frame format, information storage table of OLSR. The key concept of PA-OLSR is finding a lowest energy cost between souce and destination, and choosing the longer lifetime nodes as multi point relay nodes. PA-OLSR uses the power control mechanism based on signal attenuation rate that can estimation the minimum transmission power to neighbor nodes, and considers the energy loosing rate in the node lifetime assessment.According to the theoretic analysis, this dissertation gives the simulation models based on the OPNET Modeler platform, and analyzes three performances parameters: the success send rate, end-to-end delay, and network lifetime. The simulation results show that PA-OLSR can improve the signal channel utilization and network lifetime.
