With the rapid development of Multimedia Technology and Internet, the computer is more and more used in processing images and multimedia information, and higher demand is put forward by people in terms of the quality, volume and application of the digital image. In order to meet various practical needs, how to compress the image has become a hotspot of the current study. According to some actual needs, we want to get the reconstructed images with different resolutions and qualities. That is to say, the image compressing technology not only requires good compressing efficiency, but also can process compression ratio flexibly. There are many international standards about image compression, among which JPEG 2000(No.150-15444) is the new generation of the static image compressing coding standard designed by ISO in 2000. This paper makes an analysis about the practical application of JPEG 2000 in holographic exposure stability supervisory system according to the existing international standard.The paper, first of all, gives a brief introduction about the principle and advantage of JPEG 2000 standard, and the wavelet transform principle. The biggest difference between JPEG 2000 and traditional JPEG is that JPEG 2000 mainly adopts the encoded mode of wavelet transform. Then, the paper studies the characteristics about how the wavelet transform achieves the image compression.The key stone of the study in this paper is based on SPIHT coding algorithm of lifting wavelet transform. The paper applies the traditional JPEG algorithm into practice in the holographic exposure stability supervisory system. Experimental results show that the encoding scheme is not able to meet the actual requirements. In order to get the better compressing image and the shorter compressing time, the paper adopts an improved solution. This improved algorithm combines the respective advantages of JPEG and JPEG 2000 standards, so that the better compressing quality and higher compressing speed are achieved. At last, the application of this improved algorithm in the project confirms its feasibility and superiority.
