Since the 1950s and 1960s, with the rapid development of linguistics, the range of stylistic research has changed from only literature works to other varieties of discourses. Meanwhile, English news has the advantages of vivid and living language and wide coverage and becomes one of the important materials in stylistic research. In the new century, with the introduction of new mass medium, most famous mass media have set up their own web sites which provide fresh and authentic English materials for stylistic research. In this thesis, the author tries to apply stylistics to the analysis of English news on the Internet.Internet as a rising mass medium combines the advantages of traditionalmedia------newspaper, radio and television in transmitting, which has an influence on itstexts to some extent; therefore, the author tries to make an analysis in this aspect. In the thesis, the author chooses the latest news materials on the events like 2008 Olympic Games, 512 Earthquake and US National Election, which are mostly elected from the websites of authoritative mass media like CNN,VOA,BBC, New York Times and China Daily. Based on audio texts, video texts, and texts of the news on the webpage, the analysis is made in three aspects: the lexical level, the syntactic level, and the text structure. Among the three aspects, the text structure is the focus of this thesis. The author makes the stylistic analysis by applying the methods of comparison and statistics. For example, in the analysis of text structure, the pieces of news on the same events (512 Earthquake and Hu Jintao's Visit to US) from different links are compared to show the textual features of netnews. In Chapter 4, figures and tables are used to show the stylistic features of netnews.Stylistic analysis in this thesis is to show the influence of physical features of transmitting news on the stylistic features of news on the Internet. Meanwhile, the author hopes the analysis could contribute a little to stylistic theory and can help people find better ways of getting information from the Internet.
