In recent years, the manufacturing characteristic of the discrete manufacturing industry is getting more and more diversity. Flexible manufacturing system (FMS), with its flexible processing mechanism, is cause for concern. However, traditional FMS control system uses a layered control approach ladder. The real-time communication between the three levels, and with layers of different devices is not high, which greatly reduce the FMS "flexible". Fieldbus technology is high-speed communications channel at the underlying equipment .Fieldbus technology will be applied to the FMS control system, which can effectively improve the FMS real-time information transmission, and ensure the efficient operation of the system.This thesis talks about fieldbus control technology applicable in FMS. Through the analysis of transmission characteristics of Profibus fieldbus and its structure of protocol, it is proposed to apply Profibus-DP fieldbus to FMS control system, which can promote the traditional information transfer rate and the amount of information in the flexible manufacturing system.In this paper, at the project background of the development for STAR-FMS control system, we completed its hardware configuration for control system and related functional programming, developed a simulation-based animation WinCC monitoring system. Through the debugging, the system can meet the technical requirements.
