Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are networks of wireless nodes that are deployed over an area for the purpose of monitoring certain phenomena of interest. As a new technology in the field of communication, automation and computer science, it have been researched and applied to many fields including military defense, city management, environment detection and the remote monitor and control of dangerous circumstance.Modeling and testing are of great importance to the research of wireless sensor network and development of related commercial products.Building a framework for wireless sensor network, adding customer-defined specific functions on it and testing these functions and communication ability of the network can reduce risk and cost greatly, thus improve the development efficiency of products.Based on the above idea, this paper begins with a review of the research on wireless sensor network, and then starts the research and discussion of a testing platform for wireless sensor network based on ARM embedded system.After precise analysis of the project requirements, this paper gives a brief introduction of the hardware modules of the testing platform, including ARM7 micro processor, CC2420 wireless transceiver and the GPS module. Parameters of performance and standard configurations are demonstrated systematically. Interconnection between modules is also described.This paper then introduces the software implementation of the nodes in the network. The main tasks of software programming include communication between nodes, GPS positioning and communication between network and the remote data center. The Zigbee standard is chosen to be the communication protocol. TheμC-OSII real-time operating system is utilized to implement multi-task scheduling.This paper also describes the design of network monitoring software run on PC. The process of parsing data and drawing on the screen according to the extracted imformation is discussed, and the outdoor test results of the sensor network using this software are provided.
