Virtualization can simulate several servers running on one physical machine. All the virtualized servers share the resources of one machine and thus enhance the resource usage. How to allocate and manage the resources for the virtualized servers is very important, especially network bandwidth resource for the server application case.This thesis studied the network bandwidth allocation mechanism in depth and analyzed the weakness. Xen allocates bandwidth through reading configuration statically. Xen can not dynamically allocate bandwidth and adjust the allocation according to real-time condition.Then, this thesis added dynamic bandwidth allocation to give the bandwidth according to the number of running virtual machine and added dynamic adjusting to change the allocation of bandwidth according to the real-time bandwidth usage including the avoidance of thrashing. A solution of cache the incoming I/O requests of an over-average virtual machine was also given.At the end, this thesis also proved the good effect of bandwidth allocation improvement with a compare experiment. The modified bandwidth allocation mechanism of Xen can allocate bandwidth dynamically. It enhanced the usage of bandwidth and the practicability of Xen. And using the information of bandwidth usage in schedule of Xen will be the future work.
