In recent years, the varieties of book has increased substantially in China, but the number of press and sales decreased continuously, in the same time, the goods returned and inventory maintain the upward trend, these phenomenon reveal that production of books is increasing in China, but the consuming power is declining, the publishing industry still rely on price increases to maintain growth. There are a considerable portion of the publishing companies whose inventory is in excess of annual production, so the publishing companies have to increase a large number of types of books to the main income, which caused a new round of returns. So the publishing industry reverse logistics network planning is the key link for publishing companies to reduce cost and obtain core competitiveness. From the perspective of the system, according to customer demand for the actual delivery, consider pick-up and delivery of the customers at the same time, this paper selects a certain number points from the candidate locations as the best distribution and recycling center. The corporate and customers the centers served determined by their demand. At last, the number of vehicles needed and its distribution routings are determined.At first, this paper reduces the research background, reviews the research status quo on the reverse logistics at home and abroad, explains the significance of this paper associated with the publishing industry conditions. Then the author reviews the basic concept and characteristics of logistics, analyses the general situation of the reverse logistics, and methods of building reverse logistics system. The status of reverse logistics of China's publishing industry was described, and compared with the status of Japan. Through analytic hierarchy process, the author gets the conclusion that the low efficiency of reverse logistics in China's publishing industry is mainly because lack of scale effect. Then, the author introduces the concept, types and functions of the reverse logistics network design, and reviews general steps and the existing design methods of the reverse logistics network design. This paper proposes reverse logistics network planning issue of publishing industry and establishes the publishing industry reverse logistics network planning model based on a series of assumptions. Finally, this paper designs an example and tests the algorithm using randomly generated data. The results show that the publishing industry reverse logistics network model designed in this paper is useful, and the algorithm is feasibility and superiority. The research has guiding function for the publishing industry reverse logistics network planning.
