During the processes of drill regrinding and manufacturing,the process of inspecting the geometric parameter of drill point is indispensable.The geometirc parameter decides the shape of cutting part,and it's the key for ensuring the capacity of the drill and the quality of the product.Because the structure of multi-face drill is complex, conventional toolroom microscopic is ineffective in measuring the complex geometric parameters of in a great variety of drills. With the continuous development ofcomputer vision technology and digital image processing technology, adopting these kinds of technology for the geometric parameters of objects in non-contact measurement becomes the developing direction of modern precision measurement.This article analyzes the primary principle of drill point vision inspection, puts forward the measure of vision inspecting of drill point ,Meanwhile, the article analyzes the vision inspecting measure for geometric parameters, brings forward the calculational methods of geometric parameters based on computer vision. Based on the above, the key image processing technology used in drill vision inspection is researched, Image processing is explained and introduced its research and advantages in the engineering development,the arithmetics of image gray-scale treatment,median filter,edge detection and line thinning are analyzed.Especially, the edge detection arithmetic that works on the inspection precision is analyzed emphasisly. Subsequently, the whole image processing technology for drill inspection of drill's geometric parameters is concluded. Finally, the parameters of vidicon are demarcated, thefactors that affect the precision of drill inspecting of drill's geometric parameters are analyzed, correlative measures are advanced.According to the principles of vision inspection of drill and image processing arithmetics, develops the non-contact inspection system of multi-face drill point geometry parameters based on computer vision and image processing.The friendly soft is programmed with the software of VisualC++6.0 and OpenCV. Drill point is put on the V-block with a rotary work table,Signals are collected via zoom lens,CCD camera and video picking card, its image are displayed clearly on the screen. Operating software for image processing and Collecting the coordinates of image Corner points,then can calculate the geometric parameters of drill point. Generally,the method based on computer vision is more feasible,efficiency,low-costing and dependable,which has been proved by the experiment. The vision inspection technology conquers some disadvantages of some traditional measurements and it will be applied in engineering survey increasingly.
