Recently,the applications of the video surveillance are not only prevailing in major public places like banks,transport stations and electrical stations but also in offices and families.People can watch the circumstances in their offices and homes through cellphones supported by 3G's broadband.Thus the video surveillance server should be small in size which can be easily installed and feature in stable and reliable performance of working for a long time and in a wide range of temperature as well as moisture.Besides,as the data volume is huge for the moving pictures,in order to transmit it on the limited bandwidth it has to be compressed.The up-to-date international video standard H.264/AVC combines the advantages of low bit-rate and high definition image,especially of high fault-tolerance and high network adaptability fitting for transmitting data through networks.This thesis uses a cost-effective DSP development board integrated with TMS320DM642 chip from TI company to be the hardware platform for designing the embedded server.And it applies H.264/AVC as the video coding standard for the server,establishes the software architecture of the server,and uses scom messages to communicate between video capture and video coding module threads to let them work parallelly.Then,as one of the three original source codes X264 is chosen to be the code model for the server,which is rewritten for transplanting from VC platform to DSP platform.And after researching and improving algorithms,the server reaches the goal of real-time capturing,quick coding and fluent playing for the video pictures.The last section of the thesis gives a conclusion for the whole work and puts forward some suggestions for the unresolved problems.
