Real-time traffic information collection is an important part of ITS and a hot research field. Video detector with obvious advantages, is replacing gradually the typical detection technologies, such as loop detector, infrared and radar sensors. Traditional video detection technology based on area camera exists low-frequency, low accuracy, voluminous data, and other shortcomings. Therefore, this article presents the detection technology based on line-CCD camera.Several vehicle detection technologies are introduced in this paper, and their respective advantages and disadvantages are discussed. This thesis outlines the traffic information collection system based on line-CCD camera and the overall design, analyzes the key technologies as following:(1) image acquisition and control. The image acquisition system consists of the line-CCD cameras, high-speed image acquisition card and IPC. The system adopts the designed algorithms and strategies to adjust the camera's gain, shutter, and other parameters to acquire clear-cut images. In order to guarantee the system works well in the evening and Dark environment, we improving the auxiliary light technology.(2) speed detection by matching vehicle image. After analyzing the current vehicles speed detection technologies, we present speed detection by matching vehicle image method to overcome the shortcomings. We gain image data from two line-CCD cameras which between a certain distance, match vehicles in the two image sequence, calculated the time of vehicle through the distance, then can get the vehicle's instantaneous speed.(3) capture images of speeding vehicles. After analyzing the requirement of the detection speeding vehicles, a new technology is introduced. We adopt a more precise trigger method based on line-CCD imaging, greatly increasing the capture accuracy. After field testing, the results show that we can gets clear images, accurate vehicle speed and over speed vehicle's image.
