Mobile Ad Hoc network is a mobile, multi-hop, self-organized and centerless system, which has the features of independence, network topology, the limited bandwidth of wireless communications and so on. It has great applications especially in military and commerce. Mobile Ad Hoc network is very vulnerable against attacks, as a result, it becomes more and more important to ensure the security, and the focus is the realization of the Ad Hoc network nodes authentication and the communication security. This paper mainly introduces the basic characteristics and security requirements of mobile Ad Hoc networks, as well as some signature and encryption mechanisms in modern cryptography theory. Then we analyze some current existing authentication schemes which can be applied in the Ad Hoc network. Based on the network characteristics, many concrete researches have been done on the authentication and security communication between network nodes. The main contributions of this paper include:1. We present an effective authentication scheme in Ad Hoc network, which focuses on the key technologies, the initialization of the center node, the dynamical refreshment of the private key shares and the distributed authentication. Meanwhile, we make use of computer simulation program to achieve the key technologies involved. The realized system verifies the availability of this scheme, and solves the security problems to a certain extent.2. We design and realize an end-to-end security communications for mobile Ad Hoc network. We also program the interface for secure communications. The details of the design and the analysis of the security are provided.
